In Memoriam: William M. Isaac

June 22, 2026

It is with great sadness that Secura/Isaac Group announces the passing of our founder William M. Isaac. A proud lifelong public servant and renowned giant in the banking industry, Bill mentored and led generations of bankers and regulators over the course of his distinguished six-decade career.

Born and raised in Ohio, Bill received his undergraduate degree from Miami University and his law degree from The Ohio State university before beginning his long and productive career in law and banking.

In 1978, President Carter appointed Bill to the Board of the FDIC, where he was elevated to the role of Chairman by President Reagan in 1980 at the age of 36, the youngest ever Chairman of the agency. Bill worked closely with Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker to maintain stability in the financial and banking sectors through the banking and thrift crises of the 1980’s.

In recent years, Bill partnered with Howard Milstein to serve on the boards of the New York Private Bank & Trust and Emigrant Bank, as well as serving as Chairman of Sarasota Private Trust and Cleveland Private Trust. He co-founded Secura/Isaac Group in 2020 to focus on helping clients in the financial services sector navigate the regulatory landscape. He was particularly devoted to and a strong proponent of the community banking system and no institution was too small for his attention, efforts and counsel.

Bill’s long and impressive career is a testament to his dedication to the stability of the U.S. banking system in the last 50 years. We all share fond memories of working with Bill and enjoying his jovial spirit and devoted friendships, for many of us spanning several decades. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Bill’s family at this time.
